The Rotary Club of Accra North (RCAN) is the 3rd oldest service club in Ghana. Chartered in 1987, the RCAN is comprised of approximately 30 of Accra’s business and community leaders. RCAN is dedicated to Supporting Education, Maternal and Child Health, Promoting Peace, Water and Sanitation, Environment and Economy. 

To celebrate its first 36 years, the Rotary Club of Accra – North renovated La Wireless Early Child Development Centre. 

Some of the other project undertaken in the past include:

o Refurbishment of the Pharmacy Department of Kaneshie Polyclinic (1987).

o Acquisition and donation of three kidney Dialysis machines to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (1999).

o Construction and furnishing of a library at the Kotobabi Cluster of Schools with furniture, computers and books (2003)

o Early Child Learning Centre at Duayeden near Nsawam (2004).

o Early Child Learning Centre at La wireless (2012)

o Eye Screening at La, Accra (2014)

o Donation of Automatic External Deliberators (AEDs) to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Kaneshie Polyclinic, Greater Accra Regional Hospital

        (formerly Ridge  Hospital) and training of Health Staff on AED equipment (2019/20)

o Renovation of Early Learning Centre, La (2022)

o Donation of wheel chairs for Society for the Physically Challenged at Laterbiokorshie (2021)

o Provision of computers and Projectors to Presec Basic school, Legon, Accra. {2022)

o Equipping and furnishing Lardowayo /Odumse Health Post (2023)


With the motto Service Above Self, RCAN Rotarians work together to create positive lasting change in their local community and in the world.

Thomas Shabashie, a retired banker, an entrepreneur currently involved in Electrical cables sales as MD with Urban Lights Ltd and owner of Resource Allocation, a funds Transfer outfit.

A partner  in Almas ltd.  an Agribusiness with farms in the Volta and Greater Regions.

A  keen soccer and swimming enthusiast. A Rotarian.

Being a force in the pharmaceutical space, Kwabena Ohene Manu, an active member of the Rotary Club of Accra North has seen the club through great feats and achievements over the decades.

Meet Nana Agyei Duku , the celebrated and esteemed elder statesman of the Rotary Club of Accra-North. He holds the distinguished title of the club’s oldest and longest-standing member, a living repository of the club’s rich history and traditions

Mr. Edward Addo is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Winmat Publishers Limited, a reputable educational textbook company based in Ghana and Sierra Leone. 

Outside business, he is a patron of the Ghana Association of Science Teachers and a former trustee of the Ghana Physicians and Surgeons Endowment Fund and a member of the President’s National Planning Committee for the establishment of 2 Universities of Health and Allied Sciences and Energy and Natural Resources in Ho and Sunyani respectively. He is also a long standing Rotarian, a keen golfer and philanthropist.

Rita Donkubari, once the president of Accra-North from 2022-2023 has been a major backbone of the club and an active participating member. She has seen the club through achieving high quality of service to humanity – a major objective for the club’s establishment.
